Mud Islands Guided Bird Watching Walk – 5HR

Guided Mud Islands Day Trip (13) PM cropped

The Ultimate Bird Watching Experience

Explore three beautiful sand islands that form the essential breeding area for over 30 species of shore birds and waders. Mud Islands is a significant RAMSAR international wetland conservation area providing an important habitat and feeding ground for migratory birds. An intimate experience, with a passionate and knowledgeable bird expert, that will surely be the highlight of your Big Year journey.

Please note:

It is strongly recommended footwear is worn at all times such as wetsuit boots, reef creepers, sandals or old running shoes (with socks), as you will need to wade from the boat and between the islands; however the water is not usually more than knee deep.

Other suggestions include:

  • Wearing bathers under shorts/ pants and t-shirt in case the water is above knee-deep when crossing between islands.
  • A hat and sunscreen.
  • A good backpack to carry your own lunch and water with you as lunch is often had at the opposite end of island from where the boat lands.
  • Your camera, binoculars or viewing scope to observe or capture the majestic birdlife.
  • A warm, weatherproof jacket for boat travel, as it can get a bit chilly travelling to and from the Islands.
  • A change of clothes kept in the car is suggested in case clothes get wet whilst wading in water on the Islands.
